You've tried every viral product and the breakouts still come back. If that sounds familiar, you're not alone. Acne is one of the most common skin concerns we treat at O Skin Med Spa, and the most important thing to know is this: clearing your skin isn't about finding one miracle product. It's about using the right ingredients together, in the right order. Here are the four products our estheticians in the Med Spa reach for when someone walks in ready to get their skin clear for good.

Cleansing sounds like the easy part, but it's where a lot of acne routines go wrong. You need a cleanser that removes acne-causing buildup without over stripping your skin. That's why Olivia recommends using two cleansers: an active acne-fighting cleanser and a gentle restorative one. The combination keeps your skin thoroughly clean without tipping it into dryness or irritation.
The Acne Benzoyl Wash is formulated with 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide**, one of the most well-researched, FDA-recognized acne-fighting ingredients available. What makes it different from a regular cleanser is what happens at the pore level: Benzoyl Peroxide releases oxygen into the skin, creating an environment where acne-causing bacteria simply can't survive *(StatPearls, 2025). No bacteria means fewer breakouts.
At 2.5%, it's the sweet spot: strong enough to deliver real results, gentle enough to use consistently without constantly irritating your skin. Consistency is the key to clarity!
What you'll notice: Breakouts starting to show up less frequently, and when they do appear, they're smaller and shorter-lived.
How to use it: Massage a small amount into damp skin for about 20 seconds, rinse thoroughly, and pat dry. Use at night as your PM cleanser.
Most people skip exfoliation or use a physical exfoliant that is too harsh, leading to a constant cycle of recurring breakouts.
The BHA Exfoliating Essence 2% is a leave-on liquid exfoliant powered by *2% Salicylic Acid. Salicylic acid is oil-soluble, which means it can travel through the sebum in your pores and dissolve the buildup of dead skin cells, excess oil, and all the congestion that leads to blackheads and breakouts before they even form *(PMC7769066). It's the kind of exfoliation congested pores need.
What makes this formula stand out is that it's not just salicylic acid. Niacinamide and Allantoin are blended in to calm and protect the skin barrier as you exfoliate. So you get clearer, tighter, smoother skin without the raw, irritated feeling that a lot of exfoliating products leave behind.
What you'll notice: Pores that look cleaner and smaller. Skin that feels smoother to the touch. Fewer of those persistent, under-the-surface bumps.
How to use it: After cleansing and toning, apply to a cotton round and swipe over your face and neck. Start every other day and build up as your skin adjusts. It's gentle enough to work up to daily use.
Once your skin is clean, this is where you go to work on the breakouts that are already there.
The Acne Cream uses 5% Benzoyl Peroxide as a leave-on spot treatment, which means it stays on the skin all night and has time to penetrate deeply and reduce the bacteria causing the inflammation. Leave-on formulas consistently outperform rinse-off products when it comes to shrinking active blemishes *(NCBI Bookshelf, StatPearls) and this one is formulated to be effective without feeling harsh.
Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, and Safflower Oleosomes keep the skin cushioned and hydrated while the active ingredient does its job. Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate (Licorice Root)adds soothing and brightening support which matters, because one of the most frustrating parts of dealing with acne is the dark mark it leaves behind.
What you'll notice: Blemishes that shrink faster overnight. Less redness and swelling around breakouts. And over time, fewer of those lingering post-acne marks.
How to use it: After cleansing, gently pat a thin layer directly over any active blemishes. PM use only.
This is the step that keeps everything in check, and the one most people with acne-prone skin are missing.
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) works quietly and consistently in the background: it helps regulate how much oil your skin produces, so you're not constantly battling congestion *(Draelos et al., Int J Dermatol, 2006). It calms inflammation, so breakouts heal faster and don't spiral. And it fades the post-acne dark spots that linger long after the pimple is gone, by reducing the amount of pigment transferred to the skin's surface *(Hakozaki et al., Br J Dermatol, 2002).
The Niacinamide Serum 10% pairs that 10% concentration with Hyaluronic Acid for hydration, Gotu Kola for calming support, and Licorice Root for added brightening. For acne-prone skin that's often simultaneously oily, reactive, and dehydrated, this serum quietly handles all three without clogging a pore.
"For acne-prone skin, Niacinamide works as a calming partner to Salicylic Acid, making an effective duo for treating breakouts without overdrying." — Olivia Quido
What you'll notice: Skin that feels more balanced and less oily. Breakouts that are less angry and faster to fade and the dark marks left behind starting to lighten with consistent use.
How to use it: Apply 2–3 drops morning and night after cleansing and exfoliating. If you've used the BHA Essence, let it fully dry before layering this on top. Always follow with Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50 in the morning.
One of the biggest mistakes people make with an acne routine? Skipping moisturizer & SPF because their skin feels oily. Here's the truth on both. When acne treatments like Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid dry out the surface of your skin, your skin compensates by producing more oil, which leads to more congestion and more breakouts. Keeping your skin hydrated breaks that cycle. Olivia recommends the Active Moisturizer for acne-prone skin: lightweight enough that it won't clog your pores, but hydrating enough to support your barrier while your treatments do their job.
As for SPF: UV exposure is one of the main reasons post-acne dark spots become permanent. Acne treatments increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun, which means every morning you skip sunscreen, you're undoing the work you did the night before. Olivia's number one rule: always wear Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50. No exceptions.
These four products are designed to work as a complete system. Here's what that looks like in your routine:
1. Acne Benzoyl Wash: cleanse, rinse with
lukewarm water, pat dry
2. Balancing Toner: restore pH
3. BHA Exfoliating Essence 2%: swipe, let dry fully
4. Niacinamide Serum 10%: 2–3 drops, press in
5. Active Moisturizer: light layer to hydrate and support your skin barrier
6. Acne Cream: thin layer over active blemishes
1. Cleansing Milk: gentle cleanse
4. Active Moisturizer: seal in hydration before SPF
5. Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50: non-negotiable

Clearing acne takes a system, not one product.** You need to address bacteria, congestion, inflammation, and oil control together.
Acne Benzoyl Wash** kills acne-causing bacteria at the pore level every night you wash your face.
Acne Cream** shrinks active blemishes overnight and helps reduce the dark marks they leave behind.
Niacinamide Serum 10% balances oil, calms inflammation, and fades post-acne discoloration both morning and night.
Don't skip moisturizer. When your skin is dry from acne treatments, it produces more oil, which leads to more breakouts. The Active Moisturizer keeps your barrier balanced without clogging pores.
Always wear SPF 50 every morning. Your skin is more sensitive to the sun when using treatment products. SPF 50 protects your skin and the results you're working toward.
Give this routine at least 4–6 weeks. Consistency is what clears skin and keeps it clear.
