FAQ
What Is PDRN?
PDRN (Sodium DNA) is a highly purified DNA polymer derived from salmon and one of the most talked-about ingredients in next-generation renewal skincare and facials. It's known to support skin's natural renewal process, helping skin appear smoother, and more refreshed with a revitalized radiance over time.
What are Exosomes, and how is this Exosome Complex unique?
Exosomes are naturally occurring, tiny carriers your own cells produce to communicate with one another. They have become a major focus in professional facial treatments because of what they can carry: growth factors, structural proteins, and other signaling molecules associated with cellular repair and renewal.
This formula pairs exosomes with three structural integrity peptides. The Exosome Complex is a next-generation regenerative blend built from placental-derived conditioned media and peptides, rich in growth factors and structural proteins that help support the look of visible renewal, firmness, and radiance.
Is the azelaic acid in this serum the same as a prescription azelaic acid gel?
Prescription gels use a general and singular azelaic acid. This formula uses Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate (Azeloglicina®), a patented azelaic acid and amino acid blend formulated for brightening and fading the look of dark spots. It works by inhibiting the enzyme responsible for melanin production.
Is this serum suitable for sensitive or redness-prone skin?
This formula features SymCalmin® and Licorice Root Extract, two ingredients included for their ability to calm redness and soothe reactivity, along with Sodium Hyaluronate, an effective form of Hyaluronic Acid to help support the skin's hydration and moisture levels.
Although this formula includes a brightening active, Azelaic Acid does not have the reactive characteristics of something like a retinol and generally pairs well with other brightening ingredients like a Vitamin C or Niacinamide.
As always with a new active serum, we suggest patch testing first and introducing it into your routine on alternating days to see how your skin tolerates.
How Is Azelaic Acid Different From BHA, and Can I Use Them Together?
Yes! They are a well documented duo and work well together. Although they both offer brightening and texture refining they work in very different ways.
Azelaic acid is a naturally-derived, water-soluble ingredient. Its brightening effect comes from inhibiting melanin production. This formula uses a trademarked form, Azeloglicina® to visibly brighten uneven tone and fade the look of dark spots.
BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) is oil-soluble, which lets it penetrate into the pore itself. Its brightening and texture-refining benefits come from clearing away the buildup of dead skin cells, working mechanically as an exfoliator rather than through a pigment-related pathway.
While both contribute to a brighter, more even, smoother-looking complexion, they are not doing the same job. One calms and targets pigment from within, the other exfoliates and clears from the surface.
We recommend introducing them on alternating days at first, for example, this serum one night and the BHA Exfoliating Essence the next, to see how your skin tolerates the two before using both daily. Remember that a broad spectrum SPF is essential when using BHA since it increases sun sensitivity.
Can I use this serum with other Olivia Quido treatments and serums?
Yes! This serum is formulated to work well as part of a full Olivia Quido routine. It was designed to compliment the Bio-Placenta Peptide Serum and the Barrier Repair Serum, rounding out renewal, firmness, and barrier support across your regimen. It's also compatible with the Niacinamide and Vitamin C Serums.
The general rule when layering skincare is to let each product dry before you layer another. Apply the thinnest formula first for proper absorption, so a serum would be applied before a cream or oil.
Vitamin C and Niacinamide work well with other active ingredients and can be layered throughout the week. When using multiple treatment serums use one at a time either in the AM or PM or alternate days of the week to allow space for each product to perform.
